Updates Updates Updates

Some updates from Apple:

iDVD 7.0.1
iPhoto 7.1
iMovie 7.1
Garageband 4.1
iWeb 2.0.2

iLife Support 8.1

All should be popping up in your Software Update, I had some problems with network errors when trying to install the Garageband update, so I used the link (above) which worked fine.

Various bug fixes, but iMovie gains some extra features (see link).

For you MacBook & MacBook Pro people there's also an
update for you, it'll only appear if you need it.

The iPhone has arrived (almost).

The iPhone is here, well, almost here. The iPhone will debut in the UK on the 9th November with O2.

It will cost you £269 plus a monthly tariff of either £35, £45 or £55 but all plans offer free unlimited traffic (with a fair usage caveat) as well as access to
The Cloud WiFi hot spots.

You'll be able to buy the iPhone from Apple, O2 and
Car Phone Warehouse. No news on whether the Starbucks deal is coming to the UK anytime soon.

I'd still say wait for the next version, but if you wants it, you can now get it.

Bored of your icons?

You can easily change most icons on the Mac, from folders, documents, applications you name it. There's a simple guide from Apple here.

However; there are some system icons like the trash, finder icon and other standard icons that can't be so easily changed. There are ways to do it manually, but the whole process is made far more easy using
Candybar, from Panic, you can try the demo, it costs $12.95. I came across a free alternative today called LiteIcon which works pretty much the same way.

There are many places to get replacement icons, from individual icons to complete system sets.

Iconfactory
InterfaceLift which also has a wide selection of desktop pictures (for details of how to change that, look here).

No doubt there are many more, just search for Mac OS X icons.

iTunes 7.4

Along with all those new iPods, to support ringtones etc. Apple introduced iTunes 7.4. It should be turning up in your Software Update soon, or you can download it directly from iTunes.com.

Make that 7.4.1, that was quick.

iPods

Today Apple introduced a whole lot of iPods.

New Shuffle colours, a squarer larger screened nano, higher capacity iPod Classic (as it's now known) and to top it off, the iPod Touch, which is like a cut down iPhone without the phone, so it's an i then, ahem. It has wifi and Safari. You can now also download music from Apples new iTunes WiFi store straight to the iPod Touch or iPhone.

Check them out.

iLife 08 going cheap

If you've recently bought a Mac (on or after 7th August) then you can purchase iLife 08 for the princely sum of £9.99!

See Apple's site for
more details.
